Q: We are not able to spray for weeds in Canada. What methods do you recommend for weed control with FlightTurf/Lymex?
A: Very important to manage the weeds. Keeping the FlightTurf®/LymeX® weed free is part of the necessary maintenance cycle especially important the first few seasons, then typically once annually after it’s well established. This can be done manually for spot treatment or overall with selective spraying. If you’re unable to apply selective herbicides, well chosen timing on mowing before weeds go to seed along with overseeding with more FlightTurf®/LymeX® is recommended. If spot areas are a problem simple scalping of these areas and overseeding. Overseeding will accelerate the tightness of the monoculture and minimize further weed growth. Larger areas contact Brian O’Neill with Weeds Inc (215-870-0895 / bgon58@aol.com). He really knows our grasses if you need a resource for weed management. He is based in PA and IL, however works all over.
